Why volunteer?

The reality of modern society is that the world is interconnected on a number of levels.
Postcolonial concepts of development as economic growth and technological modernisation, as well as the explosion of telecommunications and international leisure travel, have contributed to a situation where majority countries such as India are imitating western economic models and their associated lifestyle patterns inherent within; despite well documented evidence that consumer- driven culture perpetuates inequality and generates ecological instability. We believe that in this global community where Western influence is often negative or adopted out of context, overseas volunteers have an important role to play in generating meaningful dialogue that explores the answers to balancing the earth’s ecological and economic systems and focuses on more positive aspects of Western civilisation such as advanced technical know how, self-advocacy and organisational capacity.
