Homeless children
India has a large population of homeless children who lack a sufficient support system to enable them to get off the streets. These children are displaced from their homes due to various reasons. Many run away from their homes due to broken families, fear of failing in their exams, negative peer influence, lack of adequate parental care or much more trivial reasons. Many children are also abandoned and orphaned. These children end up in the cities in search of alternate life and are forced to live on the streets for their survival...

Street presence
Every day 8-10 children join the streets of Hyderabad. Volunteers will accompany the team of Peer Educators, former street children who now form the backbone of the outreach team, to interact with these children. Volunteers will also take part in public awareness campaigns to change the attitudes of the public, railway staff and authorities towards street children.
Once a child has been identified, they are then taken to the safe environment of a shelter such as Aashray where the children are provided with good food, safe shelter, counselling and medical assistance...

Aashray
Aashray is a local organisation in the city of Hyderabad, South India. Since 2003, Aashray has interacted with over 700 children on the streets and rehabilitated over 400 children. Aashray has rescued over 30 children from various forms of exploitation, and given medical support to more than 100 children.
Most of the incidents that cause a child to run away are temporary in nature, but once they realize this they are too afraid or lack funds to return home. So Aashray will counsel a child to identify their reasons for running away, and search for their parents with the support of the local authorities.

Shelter
At the shelter volunteers take part in various activities such as art workshops, English lessons and sports.
Volunteers also help to organise entertainment events which nurture the inbuilt talent of the children and sense of self worth.
Such events are also important in sensitising the community and encouraging cooperation from the neighbourhood or basti members.

Education
Children who are orphans or who have run away from home due to abuse are motivated to join a Residential Bridge School (RBC). RBCs are one of the easiest ways to educate a child who has a gap of more than six months in their education, helping to bridge the gap between them and their peers who have been attending school by teaching the national curriculum in a condensed form.

Home Placement Camps
Children who have been on the platform for a longer duration, i.e. more than 6 months are more difficult to reach and display greater problems, such as substance addiction. The behavior of these children is more entrenched.
The objectives of Home Placement Camps are to revive, in the children, an interest in their home life and reaffirm their faith in the family as a unit capable of taking care of their needs. The children are reminded of the love and affection they received from their families while living at home and these positive experiences are reinforced.
