Mahesh Sharma Kommu PGDMC

Mahesh hails from Hyderabad in South India. With a background in marketing and events organization, he turned his energies towards charity fundraising after arriving in London in 2001, and over a span of four years has worked for various charities including Gesture International, Action Aid, Red Cross, Oxfam, Care International, British Heart Foundation and Save the Children. Charity work is Mahesh's main focus and he subsequently returned to India to help establish a project for street children, assisting a newly founded local organization named Aashray to expand their work by organizing sensitization campaigns and designing various projects. Mahesh's work with Aashray resulted in the rehabilitation of 200 street children and reunited 25 runaway children with their families. He also manages several projects in India to facilitate community-based research into sustainable solutions to issues of poverty, poor sanitation and denial of basic rights, one outcome being the provision of clean water tanks for several villages in India.

  gini   Marketing and Events Coordinator
Gini Lyon

Gini has been greatly involved in the charity fundraising sector for several years. In this time she has worked for a wide range of charities, progressing to team leader and finally working to train new charity fundraisers to fundraise on a professional level. Through this experience Gini realized that she wanted to work hands on with overseas development organisations. In 2004 she went to India with the intention to experience first hand the reality of others' lives and understand the confinements and liberations within both Eastern and Western cultures. She worked in Amrivati, Marashtra, for a local homeless charity and was the first Down2Earth volunteer for the India project with Aashray. Gini's interests are in healing and personal growth and she is qualified in Reiki II. Since her return to the UK in September 2006, Gini has become an integral part of the Down2Earth team in London, helping with events and advising prospective volunteers about what to expect when volunteering overseas.
