UK
The UK has a major impact on developing countries and the world as a whole. Volunteers and NGOs working overseas have the potential to be a positive influence in creating change through engaging with local communities. Down2Earth has a base in the UK, where we recruit the majority of our overseas volunteers and raise most of the funds to support and expand our projects. Our volunteer opportunities give training to individuals wishing to work in the development sector by providing them with good and effective ground level experience to help them understand the basics of development work. Our focus is on education as the first step towards achieving change of any kind. We take part in various events around the UK, where we raise awareness of environmental and social justice issues, and motivate people to make informed ethical choices about the way they live.
Our focus is on education as the first step towards achieving change of any kind. We take part in various events around the UK, where we raise awareness of environmental and social justice issues, and motivate people to make informed ethical choices about the way they live. We strive to ensure that local communities can access reliable information so that they can take well-informed decisions. We have in the past year worked with schools, at lifestyle fairs, at green fairs and community events, acting as resource persons and promoting the principles of sustainability. We host fundraising events which bring together people with common interests and raise the profile of our work overseas. We are part of a broad informal international coalition of community groups and individuals wishing to create a fundamental change in society's consciousness and people's relationship to the world as a whole. We are committed to long-term, sustainable change, which means connecting people, for example by creating networks to campaign for humanitarian and environmental issues and by linking funders to those in need. To make long-term sustainable changes we need to speak up together with marginalised people to influence governments and other institutions. |
