30 March 2008 - INDIA UPDATE

Between January and March 2008, volunteers and local D2E staff worked with Aashray to conduct an extreme makeover of the drop in shelter and build essential facilities for children such as toilets and a hygienic kitchen, building rapport with peer groups through Basic Needs Campaigns and building a strong base of local volunteers to enable ongoing support to the project.

In March 2008, a performance event was held in the sports ground in Ramakistapuram with children and Performers Without Borders, who came to Hyderabad for a week, teaching circus skills at Aashray and putting up a performance.

Two days later, Performers Without Borders took their show to Hyderabad's Old City, where children from Guru Nanak High School and Boystown were treated to a special performance.

The Circus comes to Aashray!

Performers Without Borders (PWB) worked in four locations in India from October 2007 until March 2008. They worked with organisations that provide support for street children in urban India, giving disadvantaged children the opportunity to explore their potential through teaching performance skills (and also having fun).

In March 2008 PWB took a detour from their schedule to do a last performance in Hyderabad with Down2Earth and Aashray. Read more about PWB on their website, where you can also see more pictures from their Hyderabad show as well as from the other shows they did while in India.
